DIRTY JAKE
Well Dirty Jake made a big mistake when he took a shine to me,
A young man with lots of sand I was crooked and carefree.
Jake was just the nicest man he never did no wrong,
He was liked real good buy lots of folks, and he always got along
Well I came in, full of sin, and wrecked his whole damn life,
I burned his house and stole his money, I even porked his wife.

Lord won’t you mend my evil heart,
I get strange damn urges and they’re the breaking me apart.
Lord won’t you mend my evil heart, yes sir.

Now he followed me for years on end, through each and every town,
I tried like hell to stay ahead, but he finally tracked me down.
In a bar in East Chicago, he took me by surprise,
He sat on down across from me, and he looked me in the eyes.
He said son you done some awful things, I am here to square the score,
Took out my gun and I shot at him, and I dropped him to the floor

Lord won’t you mend my evil heart,
I get strange damn urges and they’re the breaking me apart.
Lord won’t you mend my evil heart,
I get strange damn urges and they’re the breaking me apart.
Lord won’t you mend my evil heart, yes sir.

He wore a straw hat,
And he liked to walk out in the sun.
He walked into the belly of darkness,
With good posture and a beaming grin,
He was beguiled by my treacherous ways.
He was all about to be being swell,
And he took a bath every day.
He was Dirty Jake,
He was every man’s friend.

All the good ones dies so damn young.
